Driver's Age
The minimum driver’s age is 21 years.
A young driver surcharge of USD 10 per day will apply for drivers aged from 21 years to 24 years.
Super Collision Damage Waiver is not available for young drivers.

Driver’s License
Drivers must have held a full license for a minimum of 1 year. Also, a valid ID card and passport would be required at time of pick up.
Driving licenses issued in the US, Canada and Australia are accepted without international driving license.
All National driving licenses in the Roman Alphabet will be accepted.
All other National driving licenses which is not in English / Roman Alphabet must be accompanied by a valid International Drivers Permit in English / Roman Alphabet.
Drivers must also show their passports or ID on collection as additional proof of identity. 

Insurance Coverage
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
It is included in your rental amount. Collision damage waiver reduces the customer’s damage responsibility to the excess/deductible amount.

The maximum excess amount in case of vehicle damages, collision or tipping the car over is USD 1000 + VAT, except negligence.
The maximum excess amount for young drivers is USD 1500 + VAT, except negligence.

Theft Waiver (THW)
It is included in your rental amount. Theft waiver reduces the client's financial responsibility for loss or theft to the vehicle to the sum of the deductible.

The maximum excess amount in case of total or partial theft of the rented vehicle is USD 2000 +VAT, except negligence.

Please Note: Partial theft is not included in Theft Waiver, for example if someone steals the radio customer will have to pay for the radio or any damage below the deductible.

Third Party Liability (TPL)
It is included in the rental amount. This coverage has a minimum deductible for damages to third parties’ property of USD 500 or 20% of the value of the event. This coverage will be void due to negligence on the part of the client or any additional driver.

COVERAGES PURCHASED ON THIRD PARTY WEBSITES OR SOURCES ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN COSTA RICA INCLUDING COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER AND THIRD PARTY LIABILITY.

Transferable Insurance 
Credit Card Insurance for Collision Damage Waiver is accepted. In Costa Rica, credit cards do not cover Third Party Liability (TPL).

In order to use the renter's own Credit Card insurance, he/she must provide proof of CDW coverage in his/her own name and must be valid for at least 30 days from the pick-up.

Customer must show written proof of coverage at time of rental. Written proof must be under customers full name and credit card and must indicate it covers Costa Rica. Said credit card must be used for rental amount and deposit. If customer fails to show coverage, then it is mandatory to purchase CDW at the rental desk.
If the client presents valid proof of their credit card for CDW coverage, the client must assume the full cost of the damages up to the total value of the vehicle and then make a claim for reimbursement with their coverage provider.

A deposit of USD 3000 for all vehicle groups will be held from the credit card.

If you do not comply with the insurance requirements listed above, it is mandatory to purchase insurance at the rental desk in order to rent the vehicle.

Excess Reduction

SCDW is available for 7 days or more rental.
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) / Full Collision Damage Waiver (FCDW) is not available for drivers under 25 years
In the event of an accident, Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) reduces your excess amount to ZERO, except negligence.
The price of SCDW is USD 30 per day for all vehicle groups and with a minimum rental period of 7 days.
If the renter opts for SCDW a refundable deposit of USD 400 will be held on the credit card.

It will cover total and/or partial theft, vandalism, damaged tires (not flat tire; change of the tire is not included), broken glasses, rims, windshields and windows. The client must strictly comply with all the provisions and undertakings of the rental agreement.

SCDW does not cover damages caused to the inside of the vehicle, including upholstery of the car, radio, A/C vents, loss of car’s keys or documents, license plates, emergency kits, damage to the undercarriage of the vehicle, or damages caused from the negligent use of the vehicle, damage caused to the vehicle resulting from the interaction with rivers, beaches, estuaries, ferry crossing, as well as tow truck service or vehicle recovery in the case of an accident or overturning of the vehicle, etc. Charges apply according to damages or loss and appraisal.

Important points regarding Insurance

1. In case of accident customer must provide to the rental agency (Champ Rides) the accident report given by the Transit Officer and the accident report with the Insurance Inspector and must report the accident to the rental agency immediately after the event takes place. Otherwise, insurance will be void. Where possible, please do not leave the vehicle unattended and wait for assistance.
2. If the accident or damage takes place in a rural area, the lessee must proceed to give a statement at the nearest Judicial or Police authority in the area and submit all documentation provided (statement report) to our rental office. It is mandatory to submit the corresponding statement made to the competent judicial authority indicated in the official ticket, for purposes of coverage implementation and effectiveness.
3. Vandalism damages, tow truck and road assistance due to negligence or in the case of an accident or overturning of the vehicle is not included.
4. Insurance does not cover damages of any type caused by driving through rivers, lakes, beaches, mangroves, and flooded roads or off-road, this will void any insurance coverage and customers would be responsible for damages.
5. No coverage covers if the driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the event.
6. No coverage applies when a rented vehicle is driven by an unauthorized driver.
7. CDW coverage does not cover, underside or interior of vehicle, vandalism damage, windows and windshields, flat tires, wheels, keys or accessories. In the event that the damage is caused by factors other than a collision with another vehicle, THE CLIENT must assume full responsibility for the damage to the rented vehicle.
8. Damages caused to the inside of the vehicle, including upholstery of the car, radio, A/C vents, loss of car’s keys or documents, license plates, emergency kits are not included in the insurance. Charges apply according to damages or loss and appraisal.
9. The renter and any additional drivers are absolutely liable for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle, even when the loss or damage is caused by a third party or in the event the cause is unknown, whether because of theft, collision, vandalism or any other cause.

Fees
Airport taxes are included in the rental amount. No other fees are added at the rental counter unless customer purchases other services or accessories.

Other fees:
1. If the vehicle is returned excessive dirty, a penalty fee of USD 113 (incl. VAT) will apply.
2. A penalty fee of USD 282.50 (incl. VAT) will apply for smoking in the vehicle.
3. A penalty fee of USD 226 (incl. VAT) will apply for losing the vehicle documents.
4. A penalty fee of USD 226 (incl. VAT) will apply for losing each vehicle license plate.
5. A penalty fee varying from USD 169.50 (incl. VAT) to USD 565 (incl. VAT) will apply for losing the car key.
Situations like police traffic tickets, parking tickets, low fuel, missing stuff like car jack, tire, etc. Will be charged to the client at the moment the vehicle is returned.

Early Returns/Unused Rental Days
No refunds (partial or full) will be given for rentals ended early including the purchase of additional services or items.

Breakdown Assistance
Roadside assistance is included in the rental price.
Damage due to customers fault or accidents is not included and will be charged additionally.
Flat tires are not covered by this service.
Relevant contact details and roadside assistance procedures will be given prior to the commencement of the hire.

Fuel Policy
You have to return the vehicle with the same fuel amount as it was supplied to you at the time of pickup. In case of less fuel missing fuel will be charged in addition to a refueling charge on your return. Unused fuel is not refundable. Fuel charges are payable at the rental desk unless otherwise stated. Supplier's fuel policies change from time to time, please confirm at the rental counter.

Mileage Policy
Unlimited Mileage

Cross Border Travel
Crossing borders is not allowed.
In the event that Cross Border and Territorial Restrictions are violated, all protections lose their validity and will be charged plenty of up to total value of the vehicle.

Ferry Travel
Taking the rented vehicle on ferry is allowed.
The customer will be responsible for any damages caused to the vehicle while on ferry.

Tax Rate
Tax is included in the rental price. However, for all the optional extras or special equipment or extra services purchased at rental counter, tax would be levied separately.

Payment Methods
Only American Express, Visa and Master Card credit cards are accepted and must be on the main drivers name while paying at the rental desk.
Debit card, cash and prepaid cards are accepted for rental.

Deposit For Young drivers - 21 years to 24 years
Credit card is mandatory for deposit.
A refundable deposit of USD 1500 will be held from the credit card at the time of rental until the vehicle is returned.

Deposit For Drivers - 25 years or more
Credit card is mandatory for deposit.
A refundable deposit of USD 1200 will be held from the credit card at the time of rental until the vehicle is returned.

Delivery and Collection
Delivery and collection service is available to Hotels in San Jose downtown, Heredia downtown and Alajuela for an additional charge of USD 20 per way.
Delivery and collection service is available for other locations and the charges depend on the location and distance.

Out of Hours
Out of hours service is available per service USD 80 + Tax.

Grace Period

For vehicle pick up:

2-hour grace period is free of charge. You must contact the rental branch and inform them of any delays. The rental branch will not wait for you outside their regular business hours. After grace period, vehicle will be provided if available. Otherwise, booking will be canceled.

For vehicle return:

Grace period of 120 minutes is allowed from the initial drop off time and with prior approval from rental agency. If you have further delays, please inform the branch as

soon as possible. Failing to inform the branch and going past the grace period you will be charged a daily rental charge at the current time and not the booking.


Extras
Confirmation of Special Equipment depends upon the availability at the rental desk.
